PROMOTING PLANETARY RESEARCH IN THE UK

The UKPF is looking to formalise its committee, with elections of roles to be held at the first Annual General Meetting on 12th November.

Over the next two weeks we would like to invite any members interested in joining the UKPF committee to submit a preliminary application by completing this form by 10th of October: Please note this form is now closed and we will shortly be publishing candidate biographies in advanced of the AGM.

At this point, we are only seeking an indication of the part of the committee you are most interested in applying for. Once we have an idea of who would like to run, we will contact all interested applicants about the specific roles. We want to ensure that we have experience and enthusiasm covering all our key functions.

We will then ask the candidates asked to write a brief paragraph introducing themselves to the community, and demonstrating their suitability for the role they would like to fulfil. And publish this on the website ahead of elections at the AGM.

The committee will consist of:
  • The leadership team – has overall responsibility for the UKPF, its activities and its future. (e.g., Chair, Secretary, Treasurer)
  • The communications team – is responsible for communication between the committee, UKPF members and the academic public. (e.g., Webmaster, Social Media officer, Email officer)
  • The representation team – are officers with relevant expertise to represent the various sections of the planetary community and UKPF’s links to parent organisations.
  • The operations team – are officers that handle the duties related to meetings/conferences (BPSC co-ordination, ECR co-ordination, new opportunities), the administration of awards (administer named prizes, prizes at meetings, travel awards, accessibility fund) and the administration of public engagement activities.

Terms will be for either 1 or 2 years to set up a staggered committee renewal and to preserve institutional knowledge.

We encourage applications from all career stages (e.g. masters/PhD students up to senior researchers and professors) and from all demographic backgrounds and all institutions.
