STFC Public Engagement Grants
Almost anyone can apply, but every application must include a researcher in an STFC-funded area of science or technology.
There are several different public engagement grants offered:
  • Spark Awards
Fund novel public engagement ideas to a value of £15,000 over a duration of up to 36 months.

  • Nucleus awards
Fund novel public engagement ideas to a value of £125,000 over a duration of up to 36 months.

  • Legacy awards
Allow the holders of previous STFC public engagement awards to apply for funding to continue and evolve their programmes.
The Legacy Award scheme requires that the candidate secure significant support from project partners. The maximum level of funding that will be provided by STFC up to 50% funding of the total project cost (up to a maximum of 50K payable by STFC) for a first Legacy award, and up to 25% funding of the total project cost (up to a maximum of 25K payable by STFC) for a second Legacy award.

  • Reaction awards
Funding up to £5,000 to allow programmes that require a fast response to take place – e.g. to promote/build upon unexpected developments.

UKSA Space for all
Small grants up to a maximum of £10,000 to support the education and outreach projects that address the aims and objectives of the UK Space Agency education programme, as set out in its Education and Skills Strategy.
Awaiting confirmation that these funds will become available again.
European Geosciences Union (EGU) Public Engagement Grants
Awards for the development of an outreach project that aims to raise awareness of geosciences outside the scientific community.
Candidates must be a member of the EGU.
Each year, two applicants will each be awarded a grant of €1000 to help further develop the idea and put it into practice. They will also receive a free registration to the EGU 2019 General Assembly, where they will have the opportunity to present on their winning projects.

Holmes Hines Memorial Fund
Administered at EPSRC, this fund makes small awards to help individuals or organisations with any scientific or engineering based activities where public funds are not available. Average award value £500.
